How good is CBD for your pet?

You might be wondering, what is the effect of giving CBD to my dog, or is CBD even banned for animals? We'll tell you what we know about CBD for animals. There will be more detailed information later in this article, but it can be said that CBD can be used for any animal. However, it is most commonly used for dogs, cats and horses. It is very commonly used for various types of pain, cancer, neurological disorders, stress relief, anxiety management and inflammatory diseases. 

How safe is CBD for animals?

It is not yet possible to say with certainty that CBD is 100% safe for animals, as there are few studies and research on this. The endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) is part of the nervous system, both in animals and humans. 

The ECS has endogenous cannabinoids, i.e. endocannabinoids, which dock onto various receptors distributed throughout the body. The cannabinoid receptors are located in various organs, for example in the nervous, respiratory and circulatory systems up to the digestive system. Ideally, the body can produce all the necessary endocannabinoids itself.

 However, many diseases can quickly lead to a lack of endocannabinoid messenger substances. This is where cannabis comes into play: the phyto-cannabinoids it contains mimic the effect of the body's own endocannabinoids, influence certain receptors and therefore have excellent therapeutic potential: they can have an anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, antispasmodic and analgesic effect. This is true for humans and animals alike. 

Is CBD good for dogs?

Dogs also have cannabinoid receptors in their bodies. This is why many people ask themselves the question: "can CBD help my dog?". Because CBD is not psychoactive, you don't have to worry about your dog getting "high". Important note: Never give your dog products containing THC. This can have devastating consequences for animals.

What dosage of CBD should I give my dog?

Because we can't communicate with our pets, you have to watch carefully and start with a smaller dosage. You can often see the effect of CBD in dogs and show individual improvements in different ways, such as less anxiety during a thunderstorm.

Hilft CBD bei Katzen?

Katzen haben selbstverständlich auch ein Endocannabinoid-System. Viele Katzenliebhaber stellen sich daher die Frage: “Wie wirkt CBD bei Katzen?”.

Es steht natürlich nahe, dass CBD einer Katze in diversen Bereichen helfen kann, zum Beispiel mit Angststörungen, Schlafproblemen, Stress, Schmerzen und Entzündungen. Oft wird auch berichtet, dass durch CBD sehr schreckhafte und “unstreichelbare”  Katzen zu richtigen Kuschelkatzen geworden sind. Man muss jedoch auch hier erwähnen, dass es leider noch wenige Studien gibt und bestimmte Bereiche noch nicht genau erforscht sind. Man kann jedoch sagen, dass einer der wichtigsten Aspekte ist, dass man bei einem seriösen Anbieter kauft, welcher EU-Zertifizierte Produkte vertreibt.

Forscher der Cornell University fanden heraus, dass CBD hervorragend chronische Schmerzen reduzieren kann und allgemein im Bereich der Schmerzbehandlung eine Substanz ist, welche bestimmte Rezeptoren blockiert und damit den Schmerz hemmt.

Können Tiere Nebenwirkungen von CBD bekommen? 

Natürlich gibt es manchmal Bedenken, ob Nebenwirkungen von CBD bei Tieren negative Effekte auslösen können. Sollte man CBD für Tiere verbieten? CBD hat relativ geringe Nebenwirkungen bei Menschen und ebenso bei Tieren. Eine der Hauptnebenwirkungen ist in erster Regel Müdigkeit. Jedoch kann es auch zu einem Verlust der Muskelkontrolle, erhöhten Durst oder Koordinationsproblemen zwischen Augen und Pfoten kommen.
